THE CORN SNAKE PIT FAMILY

JAMES, VICTORIA and GREGG
The Richie Family

Welcome to my hobby--Corn Snakes. I started out in this hobby when my son was five and he wanted a pet snake. I've always loved snakes, so I bought him one for his sixth birthday. That was in 2000. Late in 2001, I discovered that there were other types, variations, or 'morphs,' if you will, so I bought more to raise.
The Corn Snake Pit is the name my son came up with to call our enterprise. I thought he and I could learn a lot together by raising snakes. Besides the obvious snake behaviors, we could learn about genetics and how it functions in corn snakes [snakes are a lot more fun than fruit flies, in my opinion]. Also, since people do buy corn snakes, and since two local pet shops have agreed to take some of our babies--if we have any--my son could gain experience in operating a business of his own. The desire to have a Game Boy Advanced, Game Cube, X-Box, or some other game platform is very strong in a pre-teen boy. Armed with the means of having an income, and the motivation that comes from commercial bombardment and peer pressure, my son just might learn to fish, rather than eat what I serve him--to borrow a metaphor.
I want to thank my understanding wife for her putting up with my having a house full of snakes (and the number is increasing).
I also want to thank Ashley Green for designing the logo for The Corn Snake Pit. She's a cartoonist out of California who does a cartoon strip called "Nacho and Cheeze" and when I saw it I just had to have her do a logo for me. Thank you again, Ashley.
